After almost 500 weddings I can admit there have been times where the ‘industry’ gets me down. I’ve had my fair share of cynical moments when I see weddings become a family fight or a source of incredible frustration and stress for a bride and groom. Couples can loose sight of the why they are getting married, and focus solely on the wedding, the planing and the perfect image. They can forget the magnitude of the commitment they are making to one another. Industry expectations distract them from each other.

So this post is both a wedding blog and a special thank you to Anthony and Hayley, who renewed my faith once more with their incredibly natural – small family, secret ceremony. This couple had no distractions, no excessive planning and they didn’t allow the 70 billion dollar per year wedding industry to dictate their commitment. All they wanted was to be together forever and to cherish the day with their immediate family. That’s not to say they didn’t enjoy a good celebration with extended family and friends at the engagement party reveal! But the day was their own and it was perfectly simple.

Congratulations Hayley and Anthony. I’m very honoured to have been there to hear your stories, see you laugh and enjoy the day with you all. I wish you many more years of family, laughter and the incredible love you share. xx
